Toshiba Displays First Cell TV for US at CES 2010
01.11.2010

Toshiba unveiled its first Cell TV for the United States market at the International CES in Las Vegas, Nevada this past week.
The Cell TV model uses a two-piece system with an impressive set-top box that houses the advanced Cell processor and wirelessly communicates with the 1080p LCD screen itself. Toshiba says it is 10 times more powerful than most PCs and 143 times faster than most other LCD TVs.

The new Cell series use full-array LED backlighting and Kira 2 local dimming technology, not to mention include a 1Tb hard drive to record channels upon channels of content, Internet streaming content via wireless 802.11n support, and, if that's not enough, a built-in DVD player.

Toshiba's new Cell technology will also keep stride with the burgeoning 3D market. Toshiba says the sets will convert any standard 2D content to 3D in real time. Scott Ramirez, Toshiba TV group marketing VP, explained that the system can also support multiple formats of active shutter glasses for your 3D viewing pleasure.

Toshiba will offer two series of five models in the second half of 2010. The XV900 Genesis Design series will be available in black brushed-aluminum bezels and 55-inch and 65-inch screen sizes, and the Allusion Design series will eventually be available in 46-, 55- and 65-inch screen sizes.
